"I was scheduled to have a shoulder surgery that would have totally immobilized my dominant arm for 6-8 weeks. It took me a little time to wrap my head around the cost and commitment that a personal trainer would require. I'd had a big box gym membership for 10+ years at $75/month and could count the number of times I'd been in the last 2 years on both hands.
I started training with Joel about a year and a half ago. When my schedule allows I am in the gym 3 times a week. Working out with Joel and his team has been a throwback to the days I used to go to the gym with my college friends. Having a gym "buddy" was what kept me working out even when I just wasn't feeling up to it. Other than days we've had to reschedule for one reason or another, I can only think of 1 or 2 times I've missed a workout with Joel. And the ones I missed, I made up as soon as our schedules allowed.
I am arguably in better shape than I have ever been in my life. I never had the surgery on my shoulder and now regularly lift weights over my head. The knee pain and back pain are gone too. It is amazing how regular "motion" has helped with the every day aches and pains of getting older.
Joel's approach was safe, slow and steady. He never allowed me to do an exercise that might have exacerbated an old weak point. He had me work up to it until he know I was ready. He has a way of describing the mechanics of the movements he's teaching in a way that I can understand.
The other members of the gym make it feel like family. This is not a gym full of muscle heads grunting and throwing weights around. Joel's clients come from all walks of life and abilities. Many of them come as a couple or a family. In fact, my son is now a regular member and trains with Vinnie.
Joel and I have become good friends. Our conversations between sets range from the mundane to the deeply philosophical (well, if you call zombie apocalypses philosophical).
I've learned much from him and have enjoyed watching his business and family grow. I look forward to every day I get to train and learn from him."
