About Joel (CSCS)
Joel is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Virginia Tech Alumnus with a multi-sport background in baseball and track. He's competed in bodybuilding and powerlifting, with an interest in bringing a high-skill product to the general population.
His work with Jacob's Chance, a Richmond-based non-profit, provides sports, fitness, and social activities to children with special needs and their families. Since then, he's developed an internship program benefiting the students of VCU's Exercise Science department.
Joel has helped a wide-range of individuals reach rehabilitation-specific goals, fat-loss totals, and full-body strength improvements. Sports Performance training is a passion, but he understands that not one specific program design fits all individual needs. If it were up to him, everyone would lift heavy things pain-free.
In his spare time, he enjoys craft beer (IPAs especially), chocolate chip cookies, and watching Kung-Fu movies. His more established skills are public speaking, listening to his wife, and reading bed-time stories to his daughter. Some of his (current) favorite books are "Outliers," "Hop on Pop," and "Green Eggs and Ham."
About Vinnie (CPT, CSAC, SCS)
Peter is a newly Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He is showing great initiative by joining our Apprenticeship, and is a welcome new addition to the Freedom Fit coaching team for calendar year 2020, and will be accepting clients in the near future. For now, he's busy learning our systems and filling in the gaps. When he's not with us, he's spending time honing his carpentry skills or improving his culinary expertise!
Melissa is one of the new apprentices here at FFG and has been teaching Group-X since 2018. Through her own self-study (a self-professed “fitness nerd”), she knew she wanted to become a Certified Personal Trainer as her first step towards specializing in Functional and Corrective Exercise, and when introduced to Freedom Fit Gym’s philosophy, knew she wanted to kick-start her training career here.
A special utilitarian passion of hers is cooking—her unique food sensitivities and allergies combine for a palate rich in gluten-free, soy-free, lactose-free, and whey-free options, while keeping all dishes low in fat. Between some challenging past experiences, paired with unique food restrictions, and a burning desire to help those navigate unique physical and mental barriers like she herself has tamed, she is looking forward to accepting new clients in an environment she can really shine.
When she’s not traipsing in toe-shoes or looking up creative recipes, she spends most of her free time outdoors with her pups and fiancée!
